3D Model Particle System Bit Mud Motor

3D Model using a Particle System to illustrate the operation of a Bit Mud MotorThis little animation was just a piece of a much larger project, but I thought it was interesting enough to have its own little article. It was created entirely in 3D using regular polygon type modeling as well as the six separate particle systems seen spraying from the nozzle in the drill bit. A gravity effect was used to get the particle systems to curve back upwards (another great thing about 3d modeling - gravity can go any way you want it to!). This piece was later composited with Photoshop layers using After Effects to create a finished drilling animation (not seen here). Multiple particle systems with the amount and velocity of the particles required to create this effect meant that even my fastest computer spent a good amount of time creating the final rendering for this animation. The size of this completed project, needing delivery in an uncompressed production quality, actually required buying a large, inexpensive external hard drive and shipping it to the client with the files on it. Final adjustments and additions were made to small parts of the project through the use of my FTP, which helps with the transfer of large files. This is another example of a project completed entirely off-site, through email and phone. Pricing was done on an hourly basis, as per the clients request. However I can also work on a fixed budget basis, agreeing on the final price in advance, or a combination of the two.
