Animation Using Adobe Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects

This animation features a combination of vector and raster illustrations, all 2 dimensional, that were used to create a video geared towards educating young children about the process of delivering natural gas right up to the house.  This short demo video is from the beginning of the story where they are starting to explain what they believe to be the process that originally formed the natural gas.

All of the animation for this video was done in After Effects, except for the lip syncing.  That part was done in flash using shape tweens to give a slightly more fluid effect without requiring frame by frame animation.  It was still a long and tedious process, but it achieved a level of detail that you just would not get with a simple opening and closing mouth on a loop.

Animation Storyboard

Our process on an animation like this, once we receive a finalized script, was to first create a storyboard.  That allows us to identify any references we need to collect, graphics we need to create, and sound effects we needed to record.  Each part of the process was done in house, including the narration and sound effect creation. Story boarding also helps plan ahead to prepare for any transitions that might be needed from scene to scene.
